$10 DONATION Adopt a book for library THIS YEAR for Christmas, how about giving someone 2 chance to be famous? For only $10, you can “tadopt’’ a book at the West Van- couver Memorial Library and have the name of your friend inscribed inside for thousands to read. By PEGGY TRENDELL-WHITTAKER News Reporter Since the Memorial Library is the busiest library per capita in Canada, the name of the book’s adopted parent will doubtless become very well known indeed. The library is aiming to adopt out at Jeast 10,000 currently-cir- culating hardcover books as part of its $4.75 million fund-raising campaign. The money is earmark- ed for a major library expansion that will see two structures added to the existing buiiding. The extra floor space will allevi- ate the serious space shortage now suffered at the library, and allow for expanded meeting room facili- ties, a teen section, more study areas, a micro-computing centre, an zudio-visual section and im- proved parking, washroom facili- ties, handicapped access and cir- culation desk. Campaign chairman Glen Boy says the fundraising is ‘‘pro- gressing quite well — each of our divisions now are in full swing.’’ The municipality of West Van- couver has promised to give $1.2 niilion to the campaign, and match every dollar earned to an additional $1.2 million. Boy says people are adopting books for themselves, for friends or for their children. Members of the Capilano Kiwanis Club are hosting adopt- a-book beoths in the library on weekends, and application forms can also be picked up in several banks and supermarkets. Prospec- tive book parents can also call the library’s campaign office at 926- 2013, or fill out the form on page 26 of today’s North Shore News. on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30th ay almost evesything in our stores Proof of Age: If you are 65 yrs. or older, just show one of the following to receive your 15% discount. ¢ Government of Canada Blue Card ® Provincial Senior Citizen Card NORTH VANCOUVER CAPILANO MALL 925 MARINE DRIVE 988-6311 © Senior Citizen Transportation Card « Driver's License © Birth Certificate Mon.
