Sack Scent One eee ee Nees nee nemertyene North Van candidates acknowl Dear Editor: Service to the community we live in is an honorable desire. For that, 1 would jike to thank retiring North Vancouver City alderman Dana Taylor for the years of hard work and effort he put in. Includ- ed along with him are incumbents Elko Kroon, Raiph Hall and Alan Blair who went down to defeat. Given today’s uncertain economy, people seeking max- imum guarantees on their monies should look to those institutions that offer deposit insurance coverage (maximum $60,000). Government-backed securities such as Canada Savings Bonds and Treasury Bills are also safe bets, because of government’s power to tax. It also has the power to bor- row and print money, if necessary, to fulfil guarantees: made to holders of its securities. Major life insurance companies can. also be depended on. Throughout the Great Depression not one nickel was lost that was guaranteed by a life insurance company.. People often overlook ‘the fact that life insurers offer dai- ly interest and term deposit type accounts, paying competitive in- terest rates with no front or rear end charges. As there is always.a trade-off between risk and return, people © who are offered that extra per- centage point over the competitive norm should ask ‘‘WHY’’.
