Gone With the Mind, by first time playwright Robert Stellmach, concerns Rose (Christine Jastrzembska) and Harry (Dwight C. Dutkiewicz) superficially or- dinary types. She’s a PR ‘business woman’ and fan- tatic old movie buff (she’s seen Gone With the Wind about 200 times). Harry is an electrician when he needs money to pay the bills, but his main occupation is World Champion Scrabble player. What Rose and Harry have in common is that they've each sublimated their sexuali- ty into their respective pas- sions, hers for old movies, his for his Scrabble, so that when they do come together (sometime between acts one and two) the result is a chaotic intermingling of Scrabble, Clark Gable, etc. The first half of the play, e e $ 3 ® se pd A which sets up the tension, has much keener humor and is offbeat rather than bizzare. But by the second half, all normal social intercourse is at an end and the audience is left to follow the minds and fantasies of the two characters on some fairly strange trips. These manage to bring in all kinds of bad movie cliches and scenarios through Rhett and Scarlett on the verandah, right, up to Rosemary’s Baby. The play is much funnier in the first half, but in the se- cond half Jastrzembska (Rose) and Dutkiewicz (Harry) are able to show off the strength and versatility of their acting skills. The play takes place in a wonderfully designed set by John Chilton.
