NV man guilty of robbery ‘AN 18-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was placed on proba- tion for two years April 24 in North Vancouver provincial court and ordered to perform 150 hours of community work service after he pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery. ' Steven Lee Cooke was initially charged jointly with Jean Claude Martin Lemarre, 21, also of North Vancouver, with three counts of robbery and oue count of forcibly seizing another person in con-- nection with incidents in November and December 1988 in which three males were alleged to have been robbed. Appearing before Judge J.D. Layton, Cooke pleaded guilty to ‘two of the robbery charges and was placed on probation for two years. A stay of proceedings was entered in the other two charges against him. Lemarre has been ordered to stand trial on the four charges. West Van gets seawall funds ’ WEST VANCOUVER has received $25,000 from the B.C. Lottery fund to help the municipality extend its Centennial seawall. In making the announcement, West Vancouver-Howe Sound MLA Jobn Reynolds said, “This popular walkway will now go from 18th Street to 25th Street, providing more public access to the waterfront." The B.C. Lottery Fund uses the proceeds from lotteries operated by the B.C. Lottery Corp. to support a wide range of community | initiatives. NV woman guilty of theft A 29-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver woman was placed on proba- tion for terms ranging up to 18 months April 25 in North Van- couver provincial court after she pleaded guilty to theft and drug charges. Nicola Leigh Kozub wes origizally charged with three counts of theft under $1,000 ia connection with incidents late last year in which merchandise was stolen from a drugstore, Safeway aud F.W. Woolworth Co. Ltd. She was also charged with possession of marijuana in connection with 2 Nov. 1, 1988 drug seizure. Appearing before Judge J.D. Layton, Kozub pleaded guilty to the drug charge and two of the theft charges and was found guilty on the third theft charge. Theft charge laid in W. Van A VANCOUVER man has been charged with one count of theft under $1,000 after security personnel at the Park Royal south Super Valu apprehended a man carrying a carton of cigarettes allegedly stolen from the West Vancouver supermerket. West Vancouver Police and police dog Trooper were called in and subsequently searched the suspect’s van, which was parked at the Park Roya! parking lot. Police recovered approximately $1,300 of goods, allegedly stolen from various Lower Mainland stores. Charged is 28-year-old Gordon Ross Allen Henderson. a~yoo a Charities need licence in W. Nn vD Council releases budget } From page 3 Details of the district’s Capital Budget were also approved for 1989. Expenditures of $26,356,372 show an increase of $4,366,000 over the 1988 capital budget. $2,280,000 has been added to the Karen Magnussen Arena ex- pansion. Improvements to Deep Cove and Panorama Parks are planned at $92,000. The wading pool at Viewlynn Park will be converted to a spray pool at a cost of $30,000. If this project is successful, the four other wading pools will be considered for conversion. The Dollarton Highway reconstruction and watermain replacement has been budgeted (again). The district has provided $2,650,000 as its share of the cost with $2,500,000 requested from the provincial government. The road rebuilding program continues at a cost of $1,750,000 for 1989, $490,000 goes to the Redwood, Pinewood and McBride area local improvement street reconstruction. Benefiting owners will contribute $130,000. The district will spend $400,000 to continue the expansion of com- puter services and $405,000 to replace worn out municipal vehi- cles. Leachate control and restoration work will be undertaken at the closed Premier Street landfill at a cost of $225,000.
