SPORTS 21 - Sunday, September 4, 1988 - North Shore News Jeyaseelan returns home with tennis wins SONYA JEYASEELAN of North Vancouver returned home from Canadian and U.S. nationals junior tennis championships with six trophies after performances that saw her regularly finish among the top ranks. Seeded second in the Santa Rosa California State Pacific Coast Junior Championship, Jeyaseelan, 12, defeated top seed Tracy Kotseos of Winter Spring, Fla., in a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 threc-set thriller lasting more than two hours. Teamed with Renata Kolbovic Realtors NORTH SHORE realtors will take on a tough race of running, cycling and canoeing before tackling the obstacle course that winds up the Grouse Mountain Race for Crippl- ed Children Sept. 9. Eight teams of realtors will vie for top spot in this t2th annual race, helping raise approximately $3,000 for the B.C. Lions Society for Crippled Children. Money raised comes from the teams, which must pay various amounts depending on their finishes — the top team pays $250, with payments progressing higher until the losing team pays $350. Defending champion Block Bros Realty’s Delbrook office team — also the realtors’ summer baseball of Vancouver, the duo won the doubles over Megan McCarney of Edina, Minn., and Molly Gavin of Fargo, N.D., 6-4, 6-2. Eliminated in the round of 16 by third seed Lindsay Davenport of Palos Verdes, Calif., 12th seed Jeyaseelan made it to the finals of the consolation rounds of the U.S. Hardcourt National Champion- ships and took sixth place overall. In doubles, Jeyaseelan and Kolbovic reached the semi-finals, losing to the top seeds in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. In the Canadian Under-t4 Na- fo race winners — will return again this race, and expect to continue the winning tradition. Though promising a competitive team again this year, a Block Bros manager conceded that one event could make all the difference when the points are tabulated. Two racers from each of the eight-member teams — which must have a minimum of two women — take on each stage of the race. Spectators wanting to take in the race action should be at the top of the Grouse Mountain skyride be- fore the 3 p.m. start. Cash prizes of $250, $100 and $50 will be up for grabs in a raffle.
