Solitude is not the same as loneliness

Being alone is not synony-
mous with loneliness. There
are umes in all our lives
when we need a little soli-
tude. But when = solitude
becomes a habit, when we
find ourselves alone more
often than we want to be,
when we long for the com-
pany of others but don't
know how to make contact,
then we know we have a
problem with loneliness

Loneliness has = many
causes: The break up of a
romance, the death of a
loved one. a move to a new
community

With our society placing
so much emphasis on self-
rehance and independence.

difficult to establish those
ties of friendship and tellow
ship which are also so neces
sary tothe human spirit
