EE sport Winter Club takes Blazers Remain undefeated in Metro hockey action Paced by Brian Calder’s four goal production, the North Shore Winter Club cooled off the red hot Blazers from Port Coquitlam with a 12-7 thrashing in Fri- day’s action. at NSWC. Thus far the NSWC and the West Van Rockets re- main the only undefeated teams in the Metro League Standings. Playing catch-up hockey for most of the first two periods the NSWC finally pulled even at 7-7 before the end of the second period and then erupted for five unanswered third period goals to give the PoCo team their worst ever drubbing. After PoCo opened the scoring just three minutes in- to the game, Brent O’Connor evened the score for North Shore midway through the peoiod only to see his team fall behind 3-1 five minutes “ PHONE: later. Two quick goals thirty seconds apart by Calder and Rex Gould pulled NSWC in- to a 3-3 tie, but the Blazers pulled ahead again 4-3 with just over a minute remaining in the period. The two teams traded goals less than two minutes into the middie frame with Calder scoring for NSWC, his second of the game, at the 1:32 mark. NSWC fell behind 6-4 twelve minutes into the period but Brent Bremner narrowed the gap to one goal fifty seconds later. But again the Blazers regained their two goal spread, 7-5, at the mid-point of the period. However, before the period ended, Pete Johnson and Shane Sheehan found the mark to leave the two teams deadlocked at seven heading into the final twenty minutes. It was’ O’Connor’s blister- ing shot from the point only two minutes into the third period that got the Winter Club started on their five goal splurge. Calder’s shot trickled through the Blazer netminder’s pads and pave the NSWC the lead for the first time in the game. Before the period ended the Winter Club bagged in four more goals with Calder adding his third and fourth of the game, and Steve Barker and Johnson scoring singles. Complimenting Calder's four goal production were O’Connor with two goals and three assists and Mark Butler with four assists. The Blazers outshot the home team 47-41 with Kevin Hatt going the distance in goal for NSWC. Ref says good game Its not too often the referee puts in a good word for teams, at least not publicly. However, Frank Ashdown did just that after the 2-0 Molson win over Olympics in coaches soccer league action on Sunday. According to a _ league official, Ashdown told the JZ. Don't hibernate this winter ... league that the game was a well played and well con- ducted match betweem the two teams.
