Drowning in the human pool with T _ Sanaz Ashfar: IMAGINE being in a sea of people. Imagine swimming, better yet, drowning in that immense sa. Then imagine py:tting pushed up by 20 hands and get pulled back down by another 20 hands. Imagine looking around and all you sce are arnis and heads, for miles and miles on end. Imagine hot air with no oxygen. Everywhere you pull, push and force yourself through, there is another dead end of sweaty bodies. Imagine loud, hard music pumping through your veins to Keep you conscious and alive through all this mad- ness. inictine the mosh pit of TOOL! ° On Octoter 25th, Tool rocked the P.11.E. Forum. However, the same can’t be said about their opening band, Cow. They were a mix- ture of industrial, heavy and just loud music. Normally that’s good, but in Cow’s case, it wasn’t. In fact, they were so bad, people on the floor in front of the stage where the moshpit should have been, sat down. Of course, opening bands do tend to get a bit more enthusiasm from the crowd, whether it’s from their music or just the fact that the ' crowd is rowdy and waiting ' THE following is a selec- tion of volunteer opportu- nities available through _ North Shore Community Services (NSCS). for the opening band to start. But Cow really did suck the big one, After what seemed like an eternity of mish- mashed chords and loud screaming, Cow left the stage. This gave my friends and I achance to let our ear drums stop bleeding and wait for the one and only Tool. During the wait, T decided to go to the bathroom. While waiting in the long line-up, a few things came to mind, like, “damn this forum is hotboxed,” and “How I love shows that are general admis- sion, where you can sit fora while if you like and join the mosh on the floor if you want to.” All shows should be that way. I’m sure that everyone would like a chance to see the band up close, but would also like to sit and enjoy the show as well. Assigned seat- ing is just as bad as being confined to the floor. After relieving: myself, I walked back through the crowds and back up to where I was sitting, itching to see Tool start. And finally, KABOOM! Tool had entered our presence, starting off the show with the ever popular song “Stinkfist” and raging on for the rest of the night. The increasing energy drew more people to the floor. Some thoughts: Lia Margeuratt: “Tool was one of the best. shows I’ve seen in a long time!”; Paul Robinson: “Cow sucked! Tool rocked!”; Jenn Elliot: - “It was one hell of a concert, and Cow just brought it down!”; Danielle Burges: “Tool had one of tie best mosh pits in a long time. They are the best band I’ve seen live yet!” The only thing that I thought was a bit distasteful were some of the images that they were showing on the back wall of the stage.
