The event takes place
Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the atri-
um at Park Royal South.

Cocktails are at 7 p.m.,
with the West) Vancouver
Youth Band and an Tranian
dance troupe providing the
entertainment and a dozen
local restaurants providing
hors d’ocuvre.

Jazz singer Densil
Pinnock, star of Unforgettable,
a tribute to Nat King Cole at
the Vogue Theatre last year,
and North Shore-based musi-
cal ensemble Pandora’s Vox
will perform during dinner,
which is being catered by
Calhoun’s.

Emceces for the evening are
Joy Metcalfe of CKNW and
Marke Driesschen of UTV.

DARE (Drug Abuse
Resistance Education), a part.
nership. between the Wes
Vancouver District 45 School
Board and so the = West
Vancouver Police.

DARE was implemented in
12 elementary schools last
year, both public and private.

Approximately 1,200
Grade 5 and 6 students went
through the program last year,
according to Staff. Sgt. Barry
Nickerson.

This year DARE is expand-
ing to include drug-awareness
education for all Grade 7 stu-
dents.

“We believe thar education
is the only way we're going to
stem the Bow of drugs,” said
Nickerson, who added that
it’s not just children and their
parents who benefit from the
program.

getting on the road to crime,
