In the North Van Central/Lynn Valley game, Cody Morrison of West Vancouver and Jason Odegard of North Vancouver both threw four-hitters, and after the first inning kept things to three runs for each team. Highlands/Forest Hills and West Van/Cypress were tied at four after three innings, with Matt Engelbert and Pat McCrea pitching a strong game — Engelbert gave up only four hits in seven innings, McCrea giving up six hits over five innings. Jason Anderson finished the game fo. Highlands/ Forest Hills, and West Van/Cypress bats came alive for eight runs in the last inning. Winner of the district tournament will advance to the Provincial Joe Shea Championships starting July 26 at West Vancouver’s Ambleside Park. In other youth baseball action, closing day sunshine beamed down on the most exciting game of the Mt. Seymour Little League season recently where Major League play had Stongs Tigers battling Gus’s Hard- ware Marinas to a 4-3 win in a tight overtime game. Minor League I play saw White Automotive Reds come in first followed by the Parkway Chevron Royals. Servapac Red Sox finished first in Minor League II. Playing at the Arbutus Club in Vancouver, the three local players will be competing for a prize purse of $9,000 in this last-of-seven tournament, In earlier circuit action, the three locals remained strong in the top five, although Walker and Richards each slipped one spot from earlier standings. Other top-five players in the Ju- ly 20 to 24 tournament are Steve Leier of Vancouer at number two and Erie Crabb of Toronto at number four. In other tennis play, meanwhile, North Vancouver's Grant Connell teamed with Mark Greenan to win the men’s doubles at the Sun Life Nationals Sunday. Connell and Greenan topped Martin Laurendeau and Geoff Roper 6-4, 6-0. Connell,:..2, earlier fought back from near-elimination in coming from behind for a 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 7-5 victory over Quebec’s unseeded Eric Girard. The North Vancouver left- hander helped lead Canada to vic- tory in Davis Cup action earlier this year, and will play on Canada’s Olympic team this sum- mer.
