Coaches feel freezeup ONCE AGAIN, in Week 16 of their schedule, Coaches’ Soccer League games were played on rock-hard frozen fields and upsets were the order of the day. The most notable of these saw a rapidly improving Eagle Harbour side hold the mighty Iron Horse team toa scoreless draw. Olympia Gold Caps used a goal by Steve McMinn, on a give-and-go from Bill Ferguson and shut-out goal- keeping by Roger Smith, to blank Carlings 1-0. Totemcolor shut-out Molsons 2-0, and Northshore Nissan, despite controlling much of the playing, needed a goal from Brenden Sherwin on a corner-kick in the dying minutes to snatch a point from Labatts in a 1-1 draw. The feature match of the day ran truer to form as Lyn- nwood Hotel defeated arch- rivals Soccerwest 5-2, although the Soccerwest side gave their opponents a scare when they scored first as Jack Simington hammered home the rebound of a John Tin- mouth shot that had hit the post. Soccerwest might well have crafted an upset of their own, in fact, if not for a ten minute lapse of concentration in the second half during which Lynnwood pounded in all five of their goals, two from Bill Smith and singles from Jim Ewen, Rob Boyd and Ted Budai. Becky Denney (goalie) and Erin Bell (forward) came up from the Petite A team to help fill the Tween A roster for the game. The defence played a par- ticularly strong game, keep- ing Aldergrove off the score- board after their initial early four goals. Maxine Berry's hat trick and Nicole Muller’s single were all that could get past the strong Aldergrove goalie. Tween B’s skated to a well deserved 6-4 win over Rich- mond Saturday afternoon. Six different girls were in on the scoring for NorthWest Van, including Jodi Morris with her first ever. Other goals came from Michelle Ar- nalien, Lisa Kensit, Arin Mc- Connell, Natasha Thorpe and Diane Reitzner. Junior Belle B team lost a 64 decision to the North Shore Winter Club. Two girls, including goalie Heather Davis from the younger Tween B team came up to fill in a depleted roster. They were down 4-1 and 6-2 early in the game, but came back during the latter stages and showed signs of better things to come. The Belle B No.2 team downed Poco’s Shoppers Drug Mart 63 in a game which saw Sarah Jenkins get a hat trick. NS Winter Ciub ALDERGROVE CAME up very stong against the Petite A’s, defeating them 9-3, while the Petite B’s were also trounced by Aldergrove 7-1. In- Jr. Belle action, the NSWC girls were victorious against PoCo 2 with a score of 8-5, but they weren’t able to defeat Poco 1! in a very tight game 2-1, despite the ex- cellent goal tending of Cindy Vance. NSCW Jr. Belle A’s played a solid game against Langley, coming up with a 6-2 win.
