Sobbing and sporting tacky nylon knee-highs, Cavendish as Bernice Snarpley the real-estate shark, complains about how she lost her lesbian lover to a ‘’hub- cap king.” But for all this, the North Shore actress-playwright says she never gets embarrassed. “It would take an awful lot to embarrass someone who's always making a fool of themself,” Cavendish told the News recently from her North Vancouver hose. Cavendish’s new version of the comedy, It’s Snowing on Saltspring which — she originally wrote in 1985, now includes music and is called It’s Snowing on Saltspring Tra-Lah. it is the hilarious story about Christmas Eve on Saltspring island in which Cavendish plays three outrageous roles — Snarpley, a cheeky elf named Peggy, and Gr- ingle O' Darby. Cavendish brushes off critics who have a thumbs down to her decision to set her play to music. “| never read reviews,” she replies. “If you believe the good ones (reviews) then you have to believe the bad ones. My audience is my barometer, not one person's opi- nion. It's too hurtful.” To be sure, Cavendish has a strong following of joya: fans, and La Belle, Sole RESTAURANT 239 - 15th Street, West Von Lunch Monday-Friday A 111:00-3pm 52 - Wednesday, December 14, 1988 ‘ North Shore News Dinner Monday-Saturday NICOLA CAVENDISH as Gringle O’Darby gets friendly with Santa, played by Nernard Cuffling, in it’s Snowing on Saltspring at the Arts Club Theatre.
