Lifestyles Sports Bar and Cafe, at Park ard Tilford Centre, 130-333 Brooksbank Ave., North Vancouver The innovative founders of the Lifestyles non-alcoholic beverage bar at Park Royal Shopping Centre are preparing to open a second alcohol-free (that’s without alcohol, not alcohol free of charge, me thirsty lads) bar this August at the Park and Tilford Centre shopping mall. The new Lifestyles will be next te the Park and Tilford Cineplex Odeon in the store-front formerly occupied by Oscarsson’s Bakery. it will cater, in part, to the pre- and nost-cinema crowd. Featured in the Park and Tilford Lifestyles will be the same wide range of de-alcoholized beer, wine and champagne offered at the operation’s Park Royal tasting bar, but the newer and larger Lifestyles will also feature booth seating and a fuil dining menu in a European bar-style atmosphere. Food will be light and quick (soups, salads, pizza, quiches, pastas, breads, pies and assorted desserts) for the light and quick theatre crowd, and it will be prepared in high- tech convection ovens. Prices will hover in the $4 to $8 range. Aside from the food, however, Lifestyles will offer a bar at- mosphere with a real difference: no booze and no booze-related restrictions on marketing food and ‘SAUVIGNON BLANC — ROBERT MONDAVI “WOOD- BRIDGE” 1991 $9. 95 (Califor- nia) MONDAVI’S LOW-END house wines bottled under the Wood- bridge label still offer very good ‘ value for your wine dollar locally as long as you don’t think tco long or hard about them costing $3 or $4 in Bellingham. (I-was drinking the Cabernet for a whopping $3.96 in Palm Springs, . but despite being three times the price here, it's rumored ta be the est-selling red wine in B.C.) ‘The sauvignon blanc could easi- ly show as well in the white wine sweepstakes. . Timothy Renshaw TABLE HOPPING drink packages and no restrictions on the age of patrons. As the name suggests, the bar will be plugged into televised sports via satellite. But perhaps best of all for parents, kids will be welcome to join in some quality bar time: swig upen a de-alc beer and enjoy the ball game with your son or daugh- ter or play interactive video games over a flask of de-alc white wine and a bottle of mineral water. Richard McRae, Lifestyles founder and Deep Cove resident, hopes to expand the Lifestyles chain to eight outlets in the Lower Mainland area by mid-fall. He plans to open a Toronto Lifestyles beachhead in September, Lifestyles is a great idea whose time has come. For more information call 685- 0555. A memorable chef's Catch of the Day, indeed. an ‘86 Haut-Medoc (Larose-Trin- taudon) to remind me what “real’' wine tastes like. Okay, so the Chileans don’t have the backbone, the ‘dirt’ that’s distinctively Bordeaux, and rend to rely on lots of user-friendly tuit Bought the next day, this was a pleasant surprise — abundant, predictably silky fruit, but with a definite stiffener in the bottom end. Balanced tannins with a percep- tible note of cedar make it a bit unique among its similarly priced brethren or sistren. — by John Moore Wednesday, June 23, 1993 - North Shere News - 26 Gtsragaagy 445-13th St., West Van 926-8922 Verdicchio ftalian Restaurant Pasta Entrées * All our pasta entrées are $f" 2042 W. 4th Ave. Please phone for reservations 739-7675 specially priced until July 4th/93.
