wallet containing $105

Pool, in the early hours
of Monday morning.

The 23-year-old Am-
bleside man was walking
along the east side of the
pool area at 1:40 a.m. when
he was stopped by a man
holding a gun believed to be
a .38 cahbbre.

LaPierre took the stand in
North Vancouver Provincial
Court Wednesday as a
character witness on behalf
of a 17-year-old Vancouver
youth who pleaded guilty to
breaking and entering and
theft.

William Downey, was
charged May 15 after $94 of
liquor was stolen from the
bar of the Whistler Hotel on
Whistler mountain.

Crown counsel Mary Tait
said the manager of the hotel
caljed.the police, and when
they searched Downey’s
room they found the liquor.

Defense counsel said
Downey “was the victim of
an unfair quirk of fate.”

He said the liquor was
taken “as a prank” after the
hotel manager fired Downey
and declared him ‘persona
non grata’ around the hotel.

He said Downey “wanted
to get even’
