In search of the son she gave to a friend to raise, she’s on the run, with Jones, who plays her parole officer, in hot pursuit. Evergreen Village street banners, cedar-sided refuse containers, a U.S. postal box and false store names like Colorado General Insurance Agency and Jetferson Federal spiffed uo the strects. The lights, cables, cameras and crew wearing headsets were the more obvious signs of a movie being made. Yet some visitors were fooled. The Paramount feature film was shooting scenes in Edgemont Village earlier this week. plates, one customer had commented: “Whoa, there sure are a Jot of Americans up herve shupping. I guess because of the dollar.” Another befuddled visitor observing the aftermath of a scene in which Judd rams her green Ford F250 pickup into a mini-van and topples a fire hydrant, exclaimed: “My god, that must have been an awful accident over there. Was anyone hurt?” When set decorators painted the Village’s red lamp rests green, an opinion poll was started by Sylvan gift store, with most respon- dents proclaiming “green looks great.” But not everyone was amused with filming in the area. Webber, for one, said filming had annoyed some locals who felt that cos- metic changes temporarily “robbed the village of its identity.” Loss oi business and shortage of parking were other concerns. While filming netted a $4,000 donation to the merchants’ associ- ation, which will use the funds for the Sepr. 27 Harvest Festival, merchants affected by filming were required to negotiate addi- tional compensation on an individual basis. But for Maria Roder, co-owner of the Cloth Shop, which dau- bled as Clement Fine Art during filming, the experience was entirely positive. “Ir was great. P'm very impressed how professional every ors was. They're a nice group of people and the village certainly ben- efitued,” said Roder, as n crews removed fake walls and props fram her store’s interior Wednesday. Double Jeopardy won't make it to the movie screen before next summer, When it docs, Roder will be watching, even though the scenes that had 120 cast and crew inhabit Edgemont Village for 10 days won’t amount to more than twe or three minutes on film.
