IT’S been a whirlwind summer for three North Shore baseball players. North Van's Greg Hasler and West Van's Mart Gregson and Ryan Maier plaved in two World Scries tournaments as members of the Kennedy Surrey ies. And had it not been for prior commitments, the talented trio would have played in another World Series for 4 -year-alds. At the National Baseball Congress World Series in Okluhoma, the Rockies finished with a 1-2 record, though the sole victory, over Arkansas, was an impres- sive one. Maier pitched the game of lite as the Rockics thrashed Arkansas 19 2, while Gregson and Hasler came up big at the plare and in the field for Surrey. In fact, Gregson hit tor the evele (a homerun, a triple, a double and a single) in the game. A week following the Oxlahoma tournament, the Rockies took part in the seven-day American Amateur Youth Baseball Association World Series in St. Louis, Missouri. Surrey was the sole Canadian team taking part, and the majority of the other teams were state champions. En route to an impressive 6-2 tournament record, the Rockies reevived some strong play by the three North Shore players. AU chree had home runs — the only ones recorded by the Rackies — and all three dis- plaved versatility. Gregson played third and shortstop; Hasler played catcher and all positions in the outtield; and Maier pitched, played shortstop, second base and other field positions. A highlight for the team was an on-field introduc- tion ata soldout Busch Stadium prior to a St. Louis Cardinal- New York Mets game. _ FAST OIL CHAN GE_ ap CME oun Soin us “this _ SATURDAY, . < L AUGUST 22nd: ALL DAY! lee ji 394 Kingsway al: 12th.
