I would like to say thank
you to a stranger.

Iam an auxiliary constable
with #2. North Vancouver
RCMP. Un the evening of
Friday, Dec. 13, I was assisting
at the scene of an accident at
Fell and 16th. It was a very
cold night.

As.we were in the final
stages of cleanup, I noticed a
young girl, perhaps 1] or 12,
walking down the street about
a block away. She was thinly
dressed against the bitter cold
and seemed to be struggling
with something heavy.

She walked towards me

and as she gor closer I could
see that she was carrying a
large thermos. She walked
right up to me, held out the
thermos, and with a smile
sweet enough to melt the
black ice on the road said, “I
thought you might like some
hot chocolate.”

For reasons that are diffi-
cult to explain I had to polite-
ly decline her offer and |
deeply regretted that. She
seemed so disappointed as she
struggled back to her home,
so I wanted to write to tell her
not to be. I would like her to
know that I spent the next
several days telling everyone I
