A WOMAN up early to go to the washroom may have saved
her house from greater fire damage and prevented i injuries,
said a North Vancouver City firefighter. :

The woman rese at 6:08 a.m. Monday morning and
smelled smoke in her 322 East 4th St. home.

Her husband investigated and found the source of the
smoke in the basement. The cause of the fire was likely elec-

trical. Damages are estimated at $10,000. The home had a

smoke alarm, but the alarm did not contain batteries.

A 31-YEAR-OLD Vancouver man died Thursday morning
after he sustained. massive head and chest injuries while
