The pre-show party was held in a huge tent on the QET Plaza where 500 decked-out guests sip- ped and supped on fine wines and Middle Eastern delicacies while belly dancers and musicians enter- tained. Diplomat and developer Andre Molnar and his always-chic wife Julie were enjoying the affair with former Vancouver mayor Art Phillips and his colorful harem- panted wife Carole Taylor. Very eye-catching in her black silk culottes was BCTV anchor Pamela Martin. David Harrison, Audrey Skalbania and Audrey's lovely daughter Rosanda had worked so hard on this benefit that it was gratifying to learn Jater that they had raised more than $25,000! Murray Atherton, the newly appointed vice-president of mar- keting and sales for the North Van-based Rocky Mountaineer, was also on hand. Garth Drabinsky’s right-hand person, Linda Friendly, was en- joying herself on opening night. While Norman Zagier, Garth’s PR man, was Mr. Super Straight, in an ultra-reserved dark navy suit, Linda looked very appealing in red high heels, white skirt, blue ‘top and lots of colorful jeweiry. She could have been one of the contestants in the colorful Joseph costume contest which attracted more than 50 entries with 15 final- ists, 14 women and one man. So guess who won? Winner Nicholas Glass wore a brightly colored coat of many colors purchased some time ago in North Carolina by a friend of his. Joseph, with his ability to read dreams, rises to become the pharaoh’s right-hand man and all ends well. Three good samaritans Stephanie Carlson, Harald Ludwig and Joe Segat had donated a large white playhouse for the seriously ill kids to use and enjoy. Some of those on hand for the official unveiling were house president Eleanor Joy, Stephanie, Bob and Barb Stewart, Grace McCarthy, Brenda Glass, Al Hollett and Ed Gibson. Al and Ed were gearing up for Tuesday’s Ronald McDonald Golf Tournament where more than 180 golfing swingers had a great afternoon and helped a very worthwhile charity. ... Cheers!
