Flicka flips NORTH Vancouver's Flicka Gymnastics Club will be staging a gymathon March 9 as part of its annual campaign to raise much- needed operating funds. Flicka, which currently bas an enrolment of some 750 in four gymnastic divisions, is one of the few gymnastic clubs in the Lower Mainland not funded by municipal governments. According to club president Tom McKenzie, Flicka has an an- nual operating budget deficit of between $15,000 and $20,000. The club hopes to raise $7,000 towards offsetting that deficit with what will be its fifth annual gymathon, McKenzie said. . Because Flicka offers top-level instruction in its competitive pro- gram, its overhead costs are higher than those of less intensive clubs. McKenzie said. Over the past year, Flicka has added approximately 250 aspiring gymnasts to its ranks. The club, which has been on the North Shore for the past 12 years, currently has 16 instructors, three full-time coaches, and one profes- sional administrator.
