NEWS BRIEFS Fire destroys North Van home FIRE DESTROYED a St. Georges Avenue house Tuesday. North Vancouver District Fire Deaprtment crews were called to 3110 St. Georges just after 3 p.m. According to a fire department spokesman, wind hampered ef- forts to comol the blaze. fi The two-storey home’s occupants were out at the time of the ire. The blaze originated in the home's basement, engulfed in flames when crews arrived. The fire resulted in a total estimated loss of $195,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. which was fully Gunshot brings in North Van RCMP THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP were called Tuesday night to the 100-block East 19th Street after a shot was fired in an apartment complex. The immediate area near a building at 165 East 19th St. was secured by potice and the police emergency response team was called in at approximately 8 p.m. According to the police, one male was taken into custody without injury or further incident after the initial shot was fired. The investigation continues. The suspect's name was not released by police to press time. Man faces multiple driving charges A 28-YEAR-old Vancouver man faces various charges following a recent hit and run accident in West Van- couver. Just after 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 a vehicie travelling west on the Upner Levels Highway was side- swiped by another vehicle. According to the West Van- couver Police, the driver and a passenger in the car that was struck suffered) minor injuries. The victim's car sustained approx- imately $2,500 in damage. Police say the suspect vehicle continued south down Taylor Way to Marine Drive, where the car rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection. Both drivers were in- jured. The rear-ended car sustain- ed about $800 in damage while the suspeci's car sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage.
