It was built on the site of a former service station and although there are active business premises in the immediate vicinity the area is largely residential. Residents of both 150 and 123. West Queens were present to express dissent on A5-Wednesday, February 20, 1980 - North Shore News Queenscross applies for longer hours be held the proposed extension. During debate on the proposal most aldermen favoured a new poll of occupiers within 350 metres of Queenscross — the ac- cepted radius for loca! input — and most remarked favourably upon the management of the pub and the conduct of its clientele. Alderman Gordon Rose, acting mayor in the absence of Mayor Don Bell, reminded council that most of the hotels in the Distict had created a form of neighbourhood pub within or near their beer pariours and that council had granted all of them licenses per- mitting 1:00 a.m. closing. Rose also said he un- derstood that at the 11:00 p-m. closing time at Queenscross a number of people then took off for such “in-hotel” pubs. ; This he felt discriminated against the Queenscross owners. Alderman Mike Lakes proposed the idea of a public meeting to determine the opinions of all interested parties and suggested that further consideration of the matter be deferred until such a meeting had been held. Council agreed.
