This is | called” acute ° rod
flexation and is considered
to be symptom number one.
Symptom_number two is a
stubbor itch in the area of
the reel.- Careful application
‘of oil does little to cure it,
even a: complete new line
transfusion has no effect.
The-Jatin ‘term for this is
“Reelerus oileruiperus.”

One weekend towards the .

end of May, a fishing buddy
and myself drove to Trout
Lake for a day on the water.
Trout Lake is on the way to_
Hicks Lake just a few miles
from Harrison. About a two
hour drive from North Van.

| , It sa beautiful. lake, small,
- clean and nestled right in the .
: “mountains. Frankly I enjoy

getting out and sort of tuning
in with nature almost as
much as the fishing itself.
Cutthroat and Rainbows are
there by the thousands
although they are quite
small, perhaps up to about
% of a pound. We put the
canoe in and just drifted
around trying both dry and
wet flies. They were taking
flies alright but we noticed
that most fish were hooked
on wet flies, just beneath the
surface.

Eventually we drifted to
the sauth end of the lake
where a small and idyllic
Stream starts it’s gentle
outward flow through the
valley and down into
Harrison. We beached the
canoe to have a look and to
stretch our legs.

know which fly to try first?

' Answer: Boy, that puts me
“on the spot. If they’re rising,
try and observe what they
are rising to and match it as
close as you can. Often times

a good -attractor will work..

better than an exact
imitation, If: they’re not
rising, I usually start with a
nymph or a Doc Spratley
and then keep changing
every few minutes til I hit it.
Remember, they're there,
you just have to please them.

Answer: I don’t think there
is any doubt that more fish
are taken on spinning gear
than on. fly. If you haven't
been bitten by the fly fishing
bug yet and just want to
catch fish then perhaps you
had better start with a
spinning outfit, At a later

date you may decide to |

switch over. Myself, I enjoy
both.
