North Shore recreation centres and day camp organizations would like to hear from you if you are interested in becoming a volunteer leader or supervisor. By volunteering this year you will develop skills, gain experience and collect references for your job search in the years ahead. Summer volunteer opportunities exist for everyone. The following are a few of the options available. A TYPIST CLERICAL WORKER is required for a drop- in centre. An orientation sessicn will be provided and hours of work are negotiable. This small office demands accuracy but speed is not essential. DRIVE a person to Vancouver General Hospital every Wednes- day, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and assist with important UBC research. A young MS patient participating in the project must attend sessions at the hospital through to mid- November and needs help to get there. Some remuneration for gas will be provided. ARE YOU A HANDYMAN with a hidden desire to be the next Nijinsky? A North Vancouver dance foundation needs an indi- vidual to help construct shelving for their touring boxes. Carpentry skills are essential. COMMITTEE MEMBERS are required for a counselling centre located in West Vancouver. Please consider lending your expertise to their membership, special events or long-range planning committees. RECREATION AIDES are needed to assist counsellors with swimming, games and day camp programs. Five community centres are involved and there is an em- phasis on special needs. A long- term commitment is required. July 13 to 17 the West Van- couver Soccer Association soc- cer school at Ambleside Park features Graham Adams. July 14 to 27 the West Van- couver Community Arts Coun- cil features ethnic art of various cultures at the municipal hall in West Vancouver. July 22 marks another big day at Ambleside Park with the 7Sth anniversary family picnic. The picnic events will include games, prizes and entertainment from 6 to 8 p.m. The picnic will be cancelled in the event of in- clement weather. July 27 to 31, the West Van- couver Soccer Association holds a soccer school at Ambleside Park. The information chalet situ- ated at the foot of 14th Street is staffed by students hired through the federal Chalienge 87 program and is a good place to pick up information on local events and destinations. Chalet hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday (closed 5 to 6 p.m. for dinner); 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday (closed noon to 12:30 p.m. for lunch and 5 to 6 p.m. for dinner); 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday (closed 5 to 6 p.m. for dinner, no lunch closure).
