aboard the Salyut 6 space
lab, set a world endurance
record of 175 days in space,
far surpassing the previous
mark of 139 also set by a
Soviet crew.

They now face the slow .
readjustment to Earth’s
gravity. But because of the
extensive Soviet experience
in long-term flights,
cosmonauts have learned to
prepare themselves for the
return.

The cosmonauts un-
dertake more _ rigorous
physical exercises in the
final weeks and also don
special suits designed to help
their legs’ blood vessels cope
with the extra pressure
exerted by Earth's pull.

Past crews have shown
remarkable ability to adjust
and have been up .and
walking regularly with a few
days.

The two cosmonauts also
will be kept on a diet of light
foods for a while.

As part of the Deep Cove
Aqua Fun Fair, Saturday,
the North Shore Safety
Council will be sponsoring a
canoe race to Jug Island and
back.

The race gets underway at
2 p.m., and each canoc team
will consist of a male and a
female. ©

various communily groups
are arranging for a display of

Gliding.
