Nel (nee Asheroft) was born in Yorkshire, England in 1915 and arrived in’ North Vancouver in 1923 where she began working au Woodward's in) Vancouver. She was a member of the Woodward’s Athletic Club and plaved on the Woodward's baseball team. She also enjoved playing bas- kerball and badminton, Nel and Les were married in 1937 and started their fam- ily of four boys. Their voices fill with sadness as they speak of losing one son. Les retired from Heatley Machine Works atter 50 years: 25 as an emplovee and 25 as part owner, He was kept busy installing units in pliner mills throughout B.C. Les and Nel, along with two brothers and wives, traveled south to spend the winters in) warmer climes. While relaxing in the Palm Springs area, Nel Kept think- ing of lawn bowling and Les kept busy weaving cratis, Liwn chairs, ete.
