Before Judge Jerome Paradis in North Vancouver provincial court on Jan. 15: John Matthew Steel, 58, of North Vancouver, was jailed five months and received 12 months’ probation after he was found guilty of assaulting his common-law spouse with a weapon. Steel was prohibited from possessing guns, ammunition or explosives for five years. According © to North Vancouver RCMP, Steel hit his spouse with a kitchen stool. Before Judge Ellen Burdett in North Vancouver provincial court on Jan. 13: Jerry Lee Rose, 39, of Vancouver, was jailed 18 onths after he pleaded guilty to robbing Wilfred Joseph Leboe on Nov. 12, 1997, in * North Vancouver City. According to North Vancouver RCMP, Rose tried to steal an Oldsmobile in which Leboc, 78, was sitting in near Capilano Maii. Leboc, a Vernon resident, is blind and missing one arm. ‘Police said Rose got into the driver’s scat and told Leboe to get out. Leboc decid- . ed to fight rather than let somcone steal his friend’s car. Rose finally gave up and got * out of the car after being pumn- meled by Leboe for several blocks. Several days later, Rose was arrested in Victoria. Police said Rose, an American, was wanted on a Canada-wide irgmigration warrant and “wanted by police in Vancouver, : Burnaby, Winnipeg and in the ~< United States.
