The Bab, whose name means the ‘‘Gate’’ was the pro- phet-forerunner of the Baha’i faith. He proclaimed that the purpose of his mission was the preparation of the worid for the appearance of an even greater prophet, who would usher in the age when humans will achieve a peaceful world civilization. While the Bab revealed and in- augutated an independent dispen- sation in mankind's religious his- tory, he made it clear that his cen- tral purpose was to pave the way for ‘‘Him whom God will make manifest.”” From 1844 until his death in Get Your Honda In Shape For The Summer. Convinced that only the execu- tion of the Bab would quell the burgeoning religious movement. the civil authcrities approved of the death sentence. On July 9, 1850, the Bab, at the age of 30, was martyred by a fir- ing squad in a public square in Tabriz, Persia, while thousands of people looked on. This attempt to quell the mis- sion of the Bab failed, for in 1863, Baha’u'llah, the prophet- founder of the Baha’i faith, whose name means ‘‘The Glory of God,” announced that he was the one whose advent the Bab had foretold. The chief principle of LOW SHOPPING Baha’u'lah’s teachings is ‘the oneness and wholeness of the human race."’ He taught that the time was now ripe for the coming of age of the human race and the beginning of its conscious unity. To achieve this, he urged among other things: the abolition of racial, religious, political, and economic prejudices, the adoption of an international auxiliary lan- guage, equal opportunities and privileges for men and women, a universal system of education, the independent investigation of truth, the adoption of a world code of human rights and responsibilities, and the creation of a world feder- al government. The remains of the Bab are in- terred at the Baha’i Faith’s World Centre outside Haifa, Israel, on Mount Carmel. The anniversary of his martyrdom is observed each year by Baha’is around the world.
