10 - Feiday, November 8, 1985 - North Shore News COMMUNITY SUPPORTIVE Cabin owners can't WHILE NORTH Vancouver District’s Alpine Community Plan ‘was received warmly by most residents at a recent council meeting, mountain property owners aired their objections to the plan. At 3 public hearing held in District Hall, residents ex- pressed both their concerns and admiration to a propos- ed plan that would guide development of district lands to the north of present development, including property along Indian Arm. The philosophy behind the plan is unique natural beauty of the area. for use by the com- munity, says district planner Kai Kreuchen. Numerous people voiced their support for the plan which would see the entire area become a development permit area, within which 80 per cent would be designated for wilderness recreation use that restricts development. _» PREVENT BUILDING ‘However, the wilderness area designation could pre- vent. some land owners from building. cabins on their property,’ especially in the | Grouse Mountain area. “The plan takes away all to preserve the . tights from my property,"’ said Edward Kravitz. of Vancouver, Who has owned property on Grouse Moun- tain fof many years but hasn’t had the money to build a cabin. “We're losing everything.”’ Despite this Kravitz said he supported the overall thrust of the plan. A further objection was’ presented. by Brian Helter and his wife. They own !0 acres on the mountain in- cluding the site of an old . lodge that slept 50 peeple. The landscaper said his dream was eventually . to develop a botanical gardens and perhaps bed and breud- fast accommodatioa for hikers. But because his land would be designated a wilderness recreation area under the Alpine Plan it “Srestricts myself and the heritage of my children,” - said Helter. The wilderness recreation DUNGEY, Rev. Roy JESSUP, Margaret JOE, Chief Phillip designation would prevent him from attaining this dream, and making the whole area a development permit area would ‘‘red tape him to death,’’ Helter said. PREFERRED TREATMENT Helter said he felt some property owners received preferential treatment from the district because they were FEATURES - = Not Available {including spare) * Power Assisted Brakes Aluminum Coated Mulfler Child-proot Rear Door Locks Front tnner Fender Liners Mud Flaps (Front & Rear} Side Protective Moulding Lockable Gas Tank Door Colour Co-ordinated Bumpers Child Seat Anchorage Exterior AH Mirroc Day/Night Rearview Mirror Resetladle tip Odometer Cigarette Lighier Carpeting throughout Trunk Light Passenger Assist Grips Ignition Key Reminder Chime Ashtrays (Front & Rear) Reclining Front Seats Split Folding Rear Seat Rear Seat Heating Ducts instrument Panel Dimmer {*Digital) Clock Tachometer Ait Conditioning Power Windows Deluxe Door Trim Rear Reading Lights Power Door Locks Seat Upholstery.
