of power rests in the hands of
the Scottish Nationalists who
were this week threatening
to vote with the Conserva-
tives against the government
after failing to gain their own
elected assembly in
Edinburgh.

B.C. Technology Minister
Pat McGeer hopes_ the
Vancouver area will be the
location for a $1. billion
advanced nuclear - fusion
reactor and the province has
already entered the bidding
ring.

The reactor, which would
not produce radioactive
plutonium, is being designed
by an international team and
McGeer says Canada would
be the most favorable loca-
tion because it is neutral
country and has the neces-
sary electricity available.

Annual cost of running the
reactor is put at $£00 million.

McGeer sees it as an
opportunity for B.C. to get in
the ground floor level of what
he considers will be the most
important energy source in
the world during the next
century and which = is
described as the largest
scientific development ever
to be undertaken.
