The North Vancouver actor is a co-star of MVP: Most Valuable Primate. The film, shot locally in April and May 1999, premieres today at theatres across Canada. It’s directed, written and produced by Robert Vince, producer of the Air Bud films about a football- playing pooch. MVP is the story of Jack, an escaped chimpanzee from a uni- versity research facility who ends up in Nelson, B.C. He learns to skate thanks to the voung deaf girl and hockey-playing boy he meets. Jack joins the Nuggets, coached by Marlowe (Rick Ducommun), and helps them advance to the junior B champi- onship in Vancouver. Vajda plays Moose, a Nuggets’ defenceman and reluctant enforcer. It wasn’t an easy role, he said. “[ actuaily never played hockey as a kid, my mom was too scared I'd get injured or that I°d hurt someone else,” said Vajda. “Ar the dme we were pretty tight for money, we never had enough money for hockey equipment.” Vajda played street hockey and inline hockey, but not the frozen kind.
