man guilty of ur hiking and driving Anna Marie D'Angelo News Reporter dangele@nsnews.com A West Vancouver man who is appealing a four-year jail sentence for sexual assault was found guilty March 8 on an unrejated drunk driving charge. Frank Evanshen, 50, was convicted as 2 result of a May 6, 1997 driving incident in West Vancouver. According to West Vancouver Policc, Evanshen was spotted by another motorist weaving his 1994 grey Mercedes Benz up Taylor Way. Police did not find the Mercedes on the road: Officers went to Evanshen’s home in West Vancouver where they found him outside the Mercedes. Evanshen was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech, according to police. Police say he was cooper- ative. His aicoho! readings were 18 and .20, more than dow- ble the legal limit. North Vancouver provin- cial court Judge Doug Moss fined the Vancouver stock promoter $600 and sus- pended his licence for i2 months. Last year Evanshen was found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl in West Vancouver in the late 1980s and 1990. The girl was a babysitter for Evanshen’s children. She was age 1] to 15 when the crimes occurred, The crimes began with breast groping and graduat- ed to fellatio in Evanshen’s ear. Evanshen was aiso found guilty of obstructing justice for his efforts in dissuading the girl from testifying in another sexual assault charge in 1990. Evanshen's co-accused and brother, Perry, 39, of Claresholm) = Alberta, was found guilty of sexually assaulting the same girl in 1990 when the girl was 14 years old. Perry received a three year jail sentence. The Evanshens were con- victed in B.C. Supreme court by Madam Justice Janet Sinclair Prowse. The broth- ers immediately launched an appeal.
