Transit’s accessible service plan comes into effect in October. The additional North Shore ac- cessible transit routes will be: @the 250 Horseshoe Bay/ Vancouver; 251 Queens/ Vancouver and 252 Inglewood/ Vancouver in West Vancouver; @ the 211 Seymour/Phibbs Ex- change; 212 Deep Cove/Phibbs Exchange/214 Blueridge/Phibbs Exchange and 215 Indian River/ Phibbs Exchange in North Van- couver District; @ the 226 St. Patricks/Lonsdale Quay/Pemberton Heights in North Vancouver City. This summer, B.C. Transit received 47 new diesel buses that are equipped with wheelchair fifts. Routes in West Vancouver, North Vancouver District, North Vancouver City, Delta, Langley, Surrey, White Rock and Burnaby are included in Phase Three of B.C. Transit’s accessible service plan. These routes will be accessible to people using wheelchairs and scooters. The Vancouver Regional Transit System is the first to offer ac- cessible transit in Canada. B.C. Transit plans to have all routes in its service area fully accessible in the next 15 years as old buses are replaced with new lift-equipped buses. By the end of 1992 most of the areas in the Vancouver Regional Transit System will have some accessible routes. More than 25% of the system’s feet will then be wheelchair and scooter accessible. B.C.
