CHRYSLER RECENTLY in-

troduced budget-priced versions of

its entry-level cconomy cars, the
Dodge Shadow and Plymouth
Sundance, which are virtually
identical. Starting at $8,995, the
two-door, front-wheel-drive
Shadow S and Sundance S are
surprisingly well-equipred for
under 9000 dollars.

Both cars have Chrysler's sturdy
2.2 fitre,  frel-injected,  sinule
overhead cam four cylinder engine
with 93 horsepower. This is more
horsepower than niany cars in this

e Shadow S

price range. enough to provide
adequate acceleration and passing
power, even with passengers and
luggage on board.

A five speed manual transmis-
sion is offered as standard equip-
ment while a three speed
automatic with lack-up torque
converter is optional. (At press
time, Chrysler dealerships were
offering the attomatic transmis-
sion at no extra chirye.)

The automatic transmission
shitt. smoothly and highway
cruising is relaxed and quiet,

despite the fact that this transmis-
sion does not have a fourth,
overdrive: gear. Stomp on the gas
pedal, and the transmission will
hick down a couple of gears
rather suddenty. but under normal
driving conditians, this is a
smooth unit.
