Buick is also introducing more powerful engines, more responsive Dynaride suspensions on most models and technical and ap- pearance enhancements across the line. In addition, Buick will offer its most luxuriuos sedan when the Park Avenue Ultra is introduced later in the model year. More responsive engines, such as the optional 3300 V-6 in Century and Skylark, and the 3.1-litre V-6 to be introduced in mid-year in Regal, emphasize Buick’s com- mitment (to smooth power. A specially tuned and equipped suspension, called Dynaride, dem- onstrates Buick’s continuing commitment to assure that the famous ‘Buick ride’ will mean a combination of comfort and fine handling. Dynaride, introduced on some models in 1988, is standard on all 1989 Buicks except station wagons and those equipped with Gran Touring suspexsion, Dynaride works by combining deflected-disc shock absorber valving with other carefully tuned components to provide an unusuaily smooth and comfortable ride without sacrific- ing handling response. ‘transmission Among new features, a compact disc (CD) player will be available on Regal. Also new is a remote keyless entry system, standard or available on Reatta and Riviera, Electra Park Avenue Ultra models and Regal. An anti-lock brake system (ABS) is standard on Reat- ta and Park Avenue Ultra and available on other Electra Park Avenue models and Riviera. ABS is available for first time on Regal. Rear seat lap and shoulder safe- ty belts are standard on all 1989 Buicks. RIVIERA Riviera, Buick’s prestige per- sonal luxury coupt, is 11 inches longer than the 1988 model. The new Rivicra has a stronger vertical bar grille, new rich chrome bumper design, wide roof pillars, new deck lid and rear fascia and more cur- vacious rear quarter panels. The new look is set wrap-around side moldings other detail refinements. Riviera’s powertrain is again the smooth 3800 V-6. This 3.8-litre engine with sequential-port fuel in- jection, a vibration-dampening balance shaft and hydraulic roller valve lifters to reduce friction is coupled to a four-speed automatic with overdrive. Redesigned ‘‘torque axis*' engine mounts reduce both torque steer and perceived engine vibration. The features that made up last year’s Riviera T Type model — Gran Touring package, 16-way power driver's seat and two-tone paint — are available individually for ‘89. Included in’ the Gran Touring package are Gran Touring suspension, a more performance- oriented 2.97:1 axle ratio, fast- ratio power steering and Eagle GT+4 blackwall tires on cast aluminum wheels. The T Type has been dropped as a separate model. Anti-lock brakes are available on all Rivieras. CENTURY The mid-size Century has new styling and a new optional V-6 engine, as well as interior im- provements. Century is available in Custom coupe and sedan, and Ceniury Limited as a four-door sedan and the Century Estate Photos submitted Wagon. For 1989, ail Buick Century models have standard air condi- tioning. Both coupe and sedan have more contemporary rooflines and tear window treatments, Also new: the grille, front-end panel, fascia, body-color bumpers and = flush composite headlamps with wrap- around park ana turn lamps.
