community roundup [i Pi] ‘ Adventure playground reopens in Ambleside The Ambleside adventure playground is a program that allows children ages 6-13 to do many things which they can no longer easily do in our crowdet urban society. The children take major responsibility for planning and operating their program, with the assistance and en- couragement from _ play- ground supervisors. The adventure playground is located on a wooded piece of land at Ambleside Park that provides the children with a variety of experiences and opportunities to interact with the environment. Piles of scrap wood and building supplies are available for construction of climbing things, huts and tree forts at the children’s own speed and inclination. Land is left for the children to test their skills at digging holes. planting flowers and vegetables, and gardening. Many piles of materials for arts and crafts, along with pots and pans and dress up clothes encompass the ground towards the end of the adventurous day. Children need to move and change their environ, make it theirs according to their own imagination. The adventure playground allows the spontaneous flow of imaginative and creative energies a child consists of. It lets the children use their imagination and initiative to create their own kind of order and design for their own playground. The program runs for two separate months of July and August at $15.00 per month. The playground hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Registration is at the West Vancouver Recreation Centre, telephone: 926-3266. Enrolments will be restricted this year.
