Re: North Van crossing guard
plea made.

It’s too bad that cutbacks are
being made in the area of child
safety, P feel that crossing guards
ure very much a necessity.
However, if the adult) crossing
guards must go, there still is a solu-
tion: child crossing guards, Why
not train the most senior students in
the elementary schools — Grade 7s
— todo the job? In 198! T was a
crossing guard in Grade 7. | attend-
eda school in the Vancouver school

district. Many schools have thts
program, The Vancouver police
gave us lectures and Giught us sate-
ty rules. At the end of the year we
were rewarded with a trip to the
PNE and a certificate. We worked
in pairs and toved the responsibili-
ty.

1 would like to see the North
Vancouver school district adopt this
system, which many districts are
already successfully using. [Cs sure
better than no guards at all!
