These and other vital questions will be considered in a series of legal lectures for seniors and their families titled Be Prepared and Plan Ahead — Wills and Estates. Sponsored by the North Shore Information and Volunteer Centre, lectures will take place in three locations starting at 1:30 p.m. Lawyer Tom Hodson will speak on Friday, May 29 at Silver Har- bour Centre, 144 East 22nd Street, North Vancouver. The North Shore Neighbourhood House at 225 East 2nd Street will be the location for the lecture given by © John Lakes on Thursday, June 4. The third lecture, which takes place on Friday, June 5, will be given by June Laker at the West Yancouver Seniors’ Activity (Cen- tre. All three lawyers are North Shore residents who donate their time and professional expertise to this educational program. Questions to be discussed in- clude: What can you do now to put your affairs in order? How can a carefully thought-out will help your beneficiaries? When can you zdd a codicil and when do you need a new will? What provisions are made for survivors’ immediate financial needs? What are the con- siderations in appointing an execu- tor? What are the duties of an ex- ecutor? What steps are involved in settling an estate? How do you ar- range for power of attorney and why is it necessary? . Although the lectures are free, pre-registration is advised due to limited space. These lectures have been arrang- ed by the North Shore Information and Volunteer Centre, assisted by a grant from the Legal Services Society, as part of an ongoing series of legal topics of special in- terest to seniors.
