Dear Editor: Re: Lillooet ual disturbed, North Shore News, Sept. 15. T am concerned that your readers may be under a false impression that the new reereational pathway at the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve vas pushed through without public i input or thoughtful investigation of the environment or heritage issues. Dusing the past year there have been several forums hosted “by the GVRD regarding the new recreational trail (for cyclists, inline skaters and pedestrians) at the Lower Seymour . Conservation Reserve. As Director of the Volunteer Inline Skate Patrol Chapter (Nationa! Skate Patrol) 1 have attended these forums {also attended by Paul Huadal of SPEC) and we have ‘both advocated the development of this recreational pathway. The National Skate Patrol is 3 strong supporter of recognizing environmental concerns and local history. We have been thor “oughly impressed with the GVRD"s attempts to solicit input from all community members and their desire to minimize envi- ronmental impact. Rather than considering a change in the new pathway it would be wiser to recognize that old trails don’t leave the arche- ological remnants that communities do. Instead, it would be tremendous to identify portions of the new trail thac shadow: the ‘original Lillooet Trail and perhaps even rename the new récre- -adonal trail as the “Lillooer: Trail!” Hisvorical markers such as £0 ut your mind ith 0 lal Offer. jeatigg System Service: system, shange oe id you know that you automatically receive a ag & day: ohibition from ‘driving for. being pickéd up on 08 or. We look forward to this extremely well planned new recreation- intrigue of the the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserv ational trail and make it all the more enjoyable for ail use From an inline skating, point of view Seymour i is an excep- tional location. To escape the noise and moral decay of the city? To live in tree-filled neigh- bourhoods and enjoy the proximity of nature? [¢ may be all of these, but it certain- ly is not to experience a sense of community — at least not in my neighbourhood. 1 live in’ the - Upper Delbrook area of North Vancouver. in a beautiful. quict neighbourhood. My point is this: would it be that difficult, and would it not be the most basic of human instincts, to knock on my door to tell me to keep the dog quiet? ‘Ll would have much pre- ferred a neighbour come to my doer and curse me upside, down sbout the dog, rather than phone the SPCA as.a first response.
