Tune-ups
can improve
mileage

The British Columbia Automobile
Association (BCAA) estimates
that proper tune-ups, at least
every six months. can increase gas
mileage by as much as PS per cent
-areal saving.

The six-month tune-up should
include: spark plugs: distributor
points and air fier: ignition tim-
ing: autonatic choke; radiator
thermostat; automatic brake ad-
justers: carburetor air-fuel mix-
tures plus an off change.

This) quick and inexpensive
tune-up can save real dollars - to
say nothing of the potential car
trouble that will be avoided.

There are several more things
BCAA advises to keep on top of
fuel economy.

First, consider your tires. Radi-
als are more expensive than regu-
lar tires but they last longer and
offer better driving mileaee. Snow
tires cut fuel efficiency. Do put
them on in time for the first snow
and keep them on as long as nec-
essary. But then have them
removed promptly.

Check tire pressure monthly,
when tires are cold, and make
sure pressure is to manufacturer's
specifications. Under-inflated tires
increase rolling resistance and
decrease fuel efficiency. In cold
weather, tire pressure falls. So be
sure to check your tire pressure
frequently over the winter months.

Wheels that are properly aligned
and balanced save tire wear and
increase economy. Have them
checked out.

Oil influences mileage too. The
cight engine oil for current
temperatures will ease starting
