Ze HOPPED UP A case for running By DREW FINERTY UNDER ADVERSE weather conditions and flowing spirits, the North Shore Bar- barian soccer club held their first annual ten kilometre, ten beer (which was pushed to twelve at post time) pub run. The Barbarians, who play in the North Shore Senior Soccer League, had 13 players show up for the self- destruction jaunt, which started at the Queens Cross Neighbourhood Pub and hitting the streets for the se- cond leg of the trek. Next stop was the ever- popular Olympic Hotel for two quick ones, that soon turned into two long ones, with the aid of a stunning performance by a dancer of the female persuasion. This stop was easily the most pain- ful, as the team had reached the half-way mark, and with the weather turning to a steady downpour, it looked doubtful the 13 soggy round- ballers would be up for challenge of the 3.2 kms to the Lynnwood Inn. It was a much shorter visit at this stop, as the team could taste the Coach House, only 1.3 kms away. Amid photo- graphers and press, the boys gulped their second to last pair and left with a ‘splash’. Leading the pack was an unfamiliar name to the sport of ‘pubruns’, goalkeeper Donny Forsyth, who was set- ting a torrid pace. After tackling the mud at the highway revitalization pro- ject, Forsyth could already taste the final two soldiers awaiting him. Close behind Forsyth was Mike Hardy, Graham Lusk, Rob Hartel! finished two and a half hours However, throwing cau- ~ and Drew Finerty in the run later atthe Coach House Inn. tion to the wind (and the down for the silver and After comsuming four rain), they were off and... bronze medals. Hardy beers at the Cross, the team set off in a frenzy, heading toward the Avalon where two more would soon fall by the wayside. With six under the belt, even the brutal North Vancouver weather elements couldn’t keep the team from running! After conquering the Third Street hill, the rain- bow seemed to be shining over the 2nd Narrows bridge, the pot being the Lynnwood. The team raised a total of $1100 in pledges to go towards their new uniforms and a hot shower at the end of the now annual event. : Outstanding Value! ” TOUCH CONTROL MICROWAVE OVEN UI15 West: Ull East: = - MacSween Truckers 0, L.V.
