NO COUNCIL SUPPORT BUT... The North Vancouver Community Arts Council has vowed to continue its fight to save the Stoker farm property as a heritage site, despite the fact that North Vancouver City and District councils have abandoned plans to buy the property. Ella Parkinson, president of the arts council says that before the multi-family development proposed for the site can be built, a public hearing must be held to rezone the land. Parkinson disputed council by that two-thirds of the tax revenue actually goes to the school board and that the City is currently only getting about $7,000 a year from the site. The ‘Save Stoker Farm’ committee plans to present a petition with 1400 signatures to City council in the near future. She said the arts council is still receiving phone calls from people wanting to preserve the site. “There's interest everywhere.” she said. Candidates running in the City council by-election this Fall will be questioned on their stand on the issue, Parkinson said.
