Military College in league action at the Delbrook Gym. On Friday night, the Blues exploded for 61 points in the second half to rout Royal Roads by a 94-53 count. Peter Pierobon turned in an outstanding performance for. the Blues, scoring 18 points and collecting 15 rebounds, while teammates Doug Hale, Phil de Vooght, Craig Freeman, Tony Milina and Terry Cameron all hit for double figures. ‘On Safurday, the scrappy Royal Roads team tunedin a fine performance but could not match the Blues fire power as they fell by a 75-60 count. In that contest, work- -horse Craig. Freeman scored 11 points, hauled down 13 rebounds and hit league scoring leader Phil de ‘Vooght with pinpoint passes on the fast break to assist the speedy forward in adding 18 points to his scoring total. 6’6” Peter Pierobon and guard Ken Sherk saw their first league action this weekend, having just joined the Blues following the Xmas break. Sherk was with the Blues last season and was selected a first team All-Star in the Totem Conference. _ the addition of the two players is expected to greatly increase the Blues depth, which was an area of con- cern for coach Neil Chester earlier in the season. Next weekend, the Blues piay an exhibition encounter with the University of British Columbia Junior Varsity squad in a Friday night game at U.B.C., before returning to league. action in New Westminster on Saturday night with a game: against Douglas College. On Monday, both the men’s and women’s teams are at home to Seattle’s Puget Sound College for 6:30 and 8:15 p-m. games in the Delbrook Gym. WV hosts squash tourney The Western Canadian Qpen Squash Championships will get underway on Friday at the Hollyburn Country Club in West Vancouver. _ With more than 300 ‘en- tries in the different categories, there is expected to be plenty of action bet- ween Friday and Sunday, when the tournament wraps up. Top rank players from New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Canada will all be taking part along - with top local players. Courthouse advances in ball -' The next playoff round of the Vancouver women’s basketball league will be a bit tougher for Courthouse, the North Shore entry in the league who easily handled their first obstacle on the way to the top. Courthouse drubbed Eldorado 121-74 in the two game total point playoff round which finished last Thursday. In the second game the North Shore entry coasted to a 53-43 win following their opening round 68-31 drubbing of Eldorado. High scorers in the second game were Cathy Mills with - 12 points, Shelley Howieson with 11, Kathy Mitchell and Nick with eight each.
