Home Handyman Hint#96

If using neat's foot oil on a dry
and cracking leather sofa
does not help,try saddle soap.

Perhaps your baseball or
hockeygloves or any other
leather articles have become
dry and brittle. Scrub saddie
soap into the teather with a
Stiff bristle brush. Let stand a
little while then wipe off with a
soft cloth. Repeat this treat-
ment if the surface hasn't
softened much. After the
leather has dried,.apply your
neat's foot oil and leave on for
30 minutes. Wipe away the ex-
cess. Repeat treatment a
week later. Two such
treatments should put leather
in almost new shape and pre-
vent further cracking.

Painting radiators

So often you see radiators
painted with aluminum, gold
or bronze paint. These paints
are the worst offenders in
causing heat loss. For less
heat loss you should paint in
an interior type flat pastel
shade. Discoloration is least
likely to occur if an alkyd-base
paint is used.

Rotary Mower Maintenance
With the spark plug discon-
nected, wiggle blade to test for
looseness. Tightening bolts
may not help; you may have to
remove the blade and replace
a damaged shear pin. The
shear pin is a soft metal key
connecting blade &

crankshaft which prevents
engine damage by breaking if
blade hits a stake or rock. A
broken or misaligned shear
pin will Cause hard starting,
rough running and a loose
biade
