CANADA’S TWO pay-TV
giants, First Choice and
Superchannel, are reportedly
about to merge.

According to
sources,

some
the two companies

have held lengthy discussions
on the merger and have also
reached an agreement on a
joint marketing effort to sell
the pay-TV product.

They are expected to
submit an application for

merger to the CRTC within
the next week.

~ In 1982, the CRTC
handed down a decision that
called for the establishment
of two national pay-TV

CANADA’S FIRST female
Governor-General, Jeanne
Sauve, was officially sworn
into office at a ceremony on
Parliament Hill Monday.
Prime Minister Pierre
rudeau termed the occasion
‘e="momentous event,’’ ad-
ding that Sauve’s appoint-
ment was a welcome exalu-
tion in Canadian society.
Sauve is still in the process
of recovering from the res-
piratory illness which = af-
flicted her for seven months.
However, she managed to
read a seven page speech
which not only called for
