IT’S THAT time of year — Christmas in the city.

For many, Christmas is a time of joy — of people
chatting, laughing and shopping. Inside houses, the
warm glow of the fireplace combines with the scent of
shortbread baking and a Christmas pine.

There is the glow of excitement and anticipation in
children’s eyes.

Unfortunately, not every child in our community
can look forward to a joyous Christmas. Many are
from underprivileged families who face a bleak and
dismal Christmas without our help. To make this a

Valley Centre, in conjunction with the Salvation Ar-
my, is again featuring The Angel Tree.

Mall manager Lynn Warwick explains shoppers
need only remove an Angel Tag from the Angel Tree,
which is located in the mall's centre court. ‘‘Then
purchase and wrap a gift for either a boy or girl, your
‘special angel,’ and place the gift under the Angel
Tree with the tag completed,’ Warwick says.

All gifts will be donated to a special child in time
for Christmas. Through the efforts of Lynn Valley
Cen:re and the Salvation Army, 983 gifts were
distributed in 1285.

has the Christnas spirit.

The News Classified department
will donate to charity half of the
revenues brought in from sales of
special Christmas greeting
classified ads.

Classified manager Val Stephen-
son said that the popular feature
— now in its 10th year — raised
$1,500 for two local charities last
year.

“Half the money we bring in
goes to the North Vancouver
Christmas Bureau and the West
Vancouver Santa Claus Fund,”’
said Stephenson.
