North Shore Cricket Club met South Hill for the second time in two days last Sunday, and this time they went down to defeat in the semi-finals of the Fyfe-Smith Shield competition. Darrell Winterlik again led South Hill into a com- manding position, scoring 45 of their 160 run total] before Larry White caught him off Garry Collins bowling. Several South Hill bat- smen scored quite freely off most of North Shore's bowlers. North Shore’s batting was aggressive and continually looked promising, but just as each batsman began to build his innings, the skillful bowling of South Hill would dismiss him with only a small score. South Hill restricted also North Shore with alert fielding, particularly by Bob Sawkins at silly-mid-on. Gary Collins reached a hard hit 20 runs before Brian Goring bowled him, and Bill Price scored 16 im similar style. The total had reached 89 when North Shore's last batsman, Ashwani Dutta, came in. He and Larry White appeared quite safe as they added 17 more runs, but Dutta was then bowled by Sawkins and North Shore were out of the Shield competition. South Hill therefore . advance to the finals at Upper Brockton on Sunday, 24th August. North Shore provided three players for the second division select team which played the first division selects at Upper Brockton on B.C. Day. None of the three had much success batting, but they redeemed themselves in the field. Want to play soccer? All young soccer players born in 1968 are wanted for the Lynn Valley soccer association.
