Merchant blames

sional photographer and commer-
cial property owner on Gallant
Avenue, appeared before council
on Monday night to request a re-
fund of her and her husband’s
property taxes in compensation
for “loss of business, aggravation
and untold damages.”

planned beautification and
revitalization of Gallant Avenue
has been an 18-month nightmare
that is still! not finished; she
estimated that it has cost her

to wait six months last year for
the completion of a project that
should have taken six weeks, but
that at Ciristmas she would have
settled for ‘decent sidewalks.’’

landscaping is incomplete and om
huge big maple trees from Oregon
are dying,’’ said Goodman.

In comparison, Goodman
pointed to the revitalization of the
downtown core of Squamish that
she said was completed in three

months and included: new sewers,
lighting, pavement, guliers, un-
derground wiring and planters.

$4,300 in property taxes at the

Asked by Ald. Jim Cuthbert if
sne felt that the beautification
project would enhance her
business, Goodman said it would
take years to gct beck the business
that she and her husband have
lost.

Covncil will consider Good-
man’s delegation at the next poli-
cy and planning meeting, but it
has already been advised by staff
that tax refunds have oniy been
made in the case of assessment er-
rors or inequities.

essence, the Goodmans’ claim ap-
pears to be a claim for damages.
The appropriate course of action
would therefore be for the
Goodmans to file a claim for

damages should they wish to pur-
sue the matter.””
