ae: 60 — Wednesday, June 26, 1991 -- North Shore News Argyle mourns the loss of vice-principal Duncan Ellis THE NORTH Vancouver educa- tional community is mourning the loss of Argyle Secondary school vice-principal Duncan Ellis who passed away on June 18 at the age of 56. Mr. Ellis began his teaching ca- reer in North Vancouver in the fall of 1967 after completing one year in northern Vancouver Island at Woss Lake school. His first appointment in North Vancouver was as a teacher at Carisbrooke Elementary school. in 1970, Mr. Ellis was selected to the first of a series of ad- ministrative postings; first as head teacher and senior assistant at Westover Elementary school and later to vice-principal respon- sibilities at Ridgeway Elementary school in 1974 and Canyon Heights Elementary school in 1976. in the fall of 1977, Mr. Ellis transferred to Hamilton Junior Secondary school as a teacher in the school’s unique occupational program. The next year he was appointed vice-principal at the school and remained in that role until the school closed in 1982. Following this, Mr. Ellis trans- Duncan Ellis ferred to Argyle Secondary school as vice-principal, a position he held until his passing. Mr. Ellis is remembered as a man of outstanding organizationai abilities and human quatities as well as being an excellent teacher interested in the welfare and education of ail students. This unique gift was singled out for particular commendation by the education ministry schocl ac- creditation report which identified his “‘special feel for and relation- ship with the community.” Staff members, community members and students always ap- preciated his personal touch, his understanding and his encourag- ing, yet firm, manner which was a constant reminceer of his loyalty both to them and the educational institution which he served so well. Mr. Ellis will be remembered as a kind, honest and generous man. He was a talented and dedicated educator wiio had a zest for life and a special sense of humor which endeared him to all. He is survived by his wife Joan and his three children Jane, Graham and Mark.
