page 16 - April 27, 1977 - North Shore News Dear Editor: ; In October, 1975 the North Vancouver Parents for French presented a brief to- the Board of Trustees of S.D.44 urgently requesting higher priority for French programs for our elementary school children. At that time our research determined that _ ninety per cent of the parents of elementary children were in favour of giving the children the opportunity to participate in a French program from Grade Four through Seven. _Since the composition of the Board has changed, and since the need for comprehensive elementary French program has only increased in the intervening time, this group wishes to acquaint you with its deep concern for this matter. In April, 1977 we adopted two formal goals: ‘contemporary needs, 1. That French. instruction for a minimum of twenty minutes four times per week be included in the curriculum of S.D.44. 2. That S.D.44 establish a minority language elemen- tary school wherein seventy- | five ner cent of instruction is. in the minority language (French). To this end we highly endorse the Board’s initial steps in commencing a program for children in Grade Seven, but suggest that it is not sufficient for _ and again request higher priority for French instructional op- portunities for all elementary school children. The North Vancouver Par- ents for French group is sponsoring a public meeting on May 4, 1977, at 7:45 p.m., © in the Board Room, ‘721 Chesterfield, N.V., to inform ‘interested persons of the we languages, Dear Editor: | Congratulations to the Burdett Soccer Club on the North Shore who arranged a ' Juvenile Soccer tournament and invited some out-of-town teams to play as well as others from. the _.
